Hamilton watches have a long history as one of the greatest American watchmakers. The Hamilton Watch Company was founded in Pennsylvania in 1892. Hamilton started by making pocket watches, renowned for accuracy, precision and reliability. These pocket watches were called Broadway Limited but soon became known as the “Watch of Railroad Accuracy”. In the 1920s Hamilton established a watch making style and design that later influenced such Hamilton classics as the Jazzmaster watch.

Later Hamilton became a watch and timepiece supplier to the US Army, and many of the current Hamilton watch models show their military background, such as the Hamilton Khaki watch. In fact during the Second World War, Hamilton ceased making of watches for consumers in order to concentrate on providing the US military with a total of 1 million watches and timepieces. After the war, consumer production began again, and Hamilton embraced the new age with some ground breaking watch designs. In 1957 Hamilton introduced the Ventura, the world's first electric watch - a battery powered watch as worn by Elvis Presley in the film “Blue Hawaii” in 1961. Famously Hamilton went on to introduce the world’s first digital watch in 1970; at 12.01 New York Time, on May 6, 1970, to be exact.
